I like to stay busy.
When I used to play bass in bands, I liked to be super-involved, writing songs, getting ready for gigs, and doing lots of practicing. Sometimes I’d do this for 2 bands. Why? Because I wanted to be in the best band I could be in.
When I’d play AD&D, I liked to be the Dungeonmaster, creating worlds, making detailed hand-outs, building a custom game table, and trying to make the best game I could possibly make.
And now with this, I stay very busy creating comics and stories, designing products, tweaking the website, doing conventions, and overall trying to make the best thing that I can make.
It’s not that I’m some sort of fancy, over-achiever. Nah, I’m not really like that. I’m pretty relaxed. I am a little competitive, but only with things I think I can win.
What it really is, is passion. I’m totally passionate about what I spend my time doing. If I can’t get passionate about something, then I probably won’t do it. I like to really dig in, and get totally involved, as much as I can. It’s not really the plan, it just sort of happens.
The challenge here is that I can stir that pot, and get all excited about the next thing really easily.
That’s why I cooked up the Monster Commute with the things that I’m most interested and passionate about: monsters, weird advertising, steampunk, fantasy, robots, mecha, noir, driving, fascism*, etc.

*And no, I’m not a fascist, but I do think that dystopian societies are very odd and interesting. Blame Orwell. I didn’t make this stuff up. More of that coming to the MC, later this year.

Great work! Keep it up Daniel.
well said, my art brother.
This strip is precisely how I feel after cleaning my house sometimes. Did I tell you I really love this comic? Cuz I really love this comic
I thought of you yesterday as I scraped coffee beans, spilled Costco smoothie, two half-eaten corndogs, gloves covered in melted crayon, 3 polly pocket shoes, 5 wet socks and a half bottle of vanilla vodka from the floor of the mini-van. I think I might be needing one…or a dozen…of those car air fresheners.
