Why Are We In This Hole

The design of  Chadworth Machine is an amalgamation of all kinds of robot designs I’ve seen, over the years. He’s got a Bender chest hatch, a Mignola dome-skull, and clank-janky hands.

I wanted him to be familliar and relateable.

To be perfectly honest, Chadworth’s skull is really where the soul of the character lives, regardless of his bodily trappings. So, in a lot of ways, the rest doesn’t really matter all that much.

Here are some “Separated at Birth” characters that I’ve found that remind me of old Chad:

Robot 13

R 13 is a character by Arizona indie publisher, Blacklist Studio.

Robot 13

Created by Daniel Bradford (artist) and Thomas Hall (writer), Robot 13 draws some inspiration from the same well as Monster Commute: Mike Mignola.

Both Daniels (me and him) love Mike’s work.

I’ve been asked a couple of times if I was upset that the R 13 character design was so similar to Chadworths’. I am not.

  1. Daniel and Thomas are actually real-life friends of mine.
  2. Daniel had enough respect early on in his project, just to make sure that everything was cool with me. Very classy. Since I didn’t invent dome-skulled robots, I certainly have no reason to be upset.

Great stuff, I’ve heard some good buzz about this book. You oughta check it out.

We ought to do pinups in the back of each other’s books.

There’s a bunch of other “separated at birth” artwork out there, but I’m out of time to find you anymore.

And maybe, it doesn’t matter.

    Must… have… figure… to… mod…

    • Daniel

Yeah, I need to make some Monster Commute toys… should start by doing some mods. That would be easiest, maybe.

      • Marrock

Well, I have a Terminator pulling the arms of a Crash Test Dummy on top of my monitor, having a Beastio and Chadworth Machine to cheer him on would finish the scene

Where exactly does the soul reside? In the heart or the head?
Today I was cut off at high speed by an expenso-car by a guy that did not bother to look or signal. Swoop, just completely cut me off.
He probably wondered why I rode by him pointing my gauntlet gloved (index) finger at him.
He remained clueless in his airtight, blinker equipped little pod with the glazed look in his eyes as you see on the live pony, unicorn and goat rides seen at many carnivals & county fairs.
It is amazing more people don’t die every day from mindless, robotic motions of skin wearing manlings wearing starched white shirts and a perfectly coiffed beardz.

    • Daniel

      Yeah, I understand.

Put somebody in a car, and soon they feel anonymous and kingly. (Me first mentality.)

      Glad you survived.

Well Mr phoenix, it wasn’t me. I haven’t left my house today. Too hot. But I have noticed many people trying to run me over in my little car lately. Stupids. I often wonder WHAT is SO important to drive crazy like that.
Be safe. I can’t have my main man getting hurt.

    • smilinphoenix

Miss Lites! I am flattered to be your main man. I’m tougher to get rid of than an STD.
