The Dream

I’ve always been a vivid dreamer.

I’ve found that if I concentrate on trying to remember my dreams right before I go to sleep, I tend to remember them. (Or at least the final, rich dreams of the night.)

The thing that I find most fascinating about dreaming isn’t the fantasy, or the reality, but rather, the compression of time.

When Dawna wakes up before me, sometimes I’ll fall back asleep, and have the most dazzling assortment of dreams. I’m talking about adventure here, with lots of action, characters, and crazed fun.

Later, after she wakes me up, I’ve found out that all of this dreaming took place in about 8 minutes of real (earth) time.

I never really believe it.

My dream world doesn’t believe in your time.

ahhh.. The flying or swimming without breathing dreams seem very real as they happen.
What a wonderful feeling. No wonder folks like to ride on 2 wheeled motor vehicles.
Last night, in traffic, I was cut off and had no choice but to crash our only family car.
If my car had the legs like SteamCrow does, I would have stepped right over him.
Nobody got hurt and I wish I could ride my motorcycle….. Not sure how nasty it would have been to get cut off on my 2 wheeler…. Hmmmmm..

Oh man, I’m sorry to hear that Jay.

Glad to hear that you weren’t riding your cycle. That would surely have been worse.

      Sometimes driving really sucks.

I get that too. Usually my best dreams happen between snooze buttons.

Maybe it’s just because we’re at a good point to remember them, before the brain juice erases everything.

I stopped dreaming entirely about the time my father died, I don’t hit the REM stage and get to wake up just as tired as when I went to sleep… and by my reckoning I’m long overdue for a psychotic break.

And when it happens it shall be glorious!

By the way, this may be interesting to you considering your discussion topic for this post: http://awkwardsleepramblings.blogspot.com/

I’ve also discovered I can go about five days without sleeping, and the hallucinations are really interesting at that point.

Wowsa! I get fairly unhappy without enough sleep. 5 days, I’d be psychotic.

Well, I hope the dreams come back, sans the psychotic episodes. You’re comments here are appreciated.

Hey Daniel! Will you have the Monster Commute RPG for sale some day? I saw you mentioned it in your book drive! –Mike

    • Daniel

      Yes I will.

Better yet, I’m going to be offering a free pdf version first. Then after we’ve gotten some feedback, we’ll probably offer a bound deluxe version for those who want it.

Truth is, this is a BIG project, that I’ll be tinkering with for much of 2010 I think.
