Monster Commute RPG: Pasts
Some, if not most, RPGs have character Classes. These represent the role that the characters play in the game, what their skills might encompass, and limitations to their power.
That’s all good, but skill based games don’t necessarily have this structure; We as people are often defined by our talents and skill-set. In essence, our past experience can be one way that defines us today.
In the MC-RPG a “Past” is a general background framework for your character, that encompasses how they’ve lived until now. It is a combination of your character’s career, education, and life experiences, and provides beginning equipment, skills, and cash – a good starting point to playing the game.
Feel free to flesh out your own character’s Past, bringing it to life with rich details, and making it unique.
So, every past usually comes with:
- A general background describing how the Character has lived
- A list of skills that they might have obtained (You may even have a few to choose from)
- Some starting equipment (Varies quite a bit from Past to Past)
- Some pocket cash – Money that your character has saved up
Keep in mind that an adventuring Character is primed to shed her Past and get into a life of adventure and excitement. Just because he was an Authority ClockWork Accountant doesn’t mean that’s all that he’ll ever be. These are heroes, even if they’re a little soft around the edges.

- Mechanic (Indie or Authority)
- Doctor
- Farmer
- Doomshine Runner
- Gear Jerk (Factory Worker)
- Carnie
- Roadshow Freak
- Townie
- Grifter
- Radio Personality (Authority or Pirate)
- Sky Pirate
- Spy Scout
- Factory Rebellion Inventor

Nice! I totally spaced the Vendomat. I’m going to encourage choosing a specific seller of products… ie, Muzz Vendo, Garg Canned Goods Vendo, etc.
