For our very first Spokane Comicon, I asked organizer Nate OBrien if we could do an exclusive print. Seeings how Spokane is my hometown, and Nate’s a good guy, he agreed.

Click image for a BIG version of “Monroe Street Trouble”

Here you’re seeing the Monroe Street Bridge, one of the older structures in the city, being attacked by the Spokane River Leviathan. It took me a while to figure out what I was fully doing, but now I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I chose this particular landmark (of several choices) because I’ve been facinated by the sculpted skulls that adorn it since childhood. As a kid, I’d stare out the window of my mom’s car, and think that huge skulls should be on every building. Plus, the bridge has been in reconstruction for many years, and was finally back in service sometime in 2007 (?). When I left Spokane in 2004, I’d not driven across it for many years.

This print measures 12×18, and is on matte 50 year Fuji Film archival film paper. Limited to an edition of 40, it will sell for $2o. I will begin sales in person at the Spokane Comicon; any that remain will be sold in our online store.

- Daniel

We were asked by Matt Solberg, the Director of the upcoming Phoenix Comicon, to create an exclusive print for the event. We love making these for the shows that we do, and we were especially jazzed to do one for our home-town event. (Which is fantastic, btw.)

For PCC, we wanted to do something action-packed, but also to pay homage to our home here in the Southwest. While I usually mock “southwest art” and colors, it seemed really appropriate to infuse it with real Arizona atmosphere. We did our best to do so, as well as blending it with the monster power of MONSTRU.

We’ll be selling 150 of these at the event at the Steam Crow booth #203, each signed and numbered by Daniel, and are printed on satin 50 yr archival film. They will be $20 each, our standard print price, and measure 12×18 inches. We may even consider selling a few framed ones.

If previous experience serves well, these prints will sell out fast. Our Emerald City Comicon print sold out in 4 hours this year.

Sorry to not post another episode, but today the Steam Team is at the Phoenix Comicon. If you’re in Arizona, you’d best be here, as it’s turning out to be an epic show.

This is our fifth year, and we’ve watched this show grow from a little local show (with quality folks and a grand vision) grow and *improve* each and every year. In 2008, I even had the opportunity to help them develop their brand by designing their logomark.

Pure growth isn’t always a good thing (see complaints about SDCC crowds), but with PHXCC, the growth has always been quality; better venues, more media geek guests, and tons of programming. I think they’re saying that there is over 500 hrs of programming here.

In any case, I’m really thrilled to be here this weekend, and show ourselves off in the new Phoenix Convention Center venue, and a full-fledged booth space.

Look out.

Maybe we’ll see you here next year. (Or better yet, this year.)

We’ve been keeping these Feratu Friends resincast toys a secret for way too long.

I’ve been sculpting on them for what seems like months. Though they were started way back this spring, I ran into all kinds of casting troubles and foibles, which then was made worse when my original got knocked onto the floor by my son, shattering it.

A couple of months later my frustration abated, and I went back to salvaging the project, resulting in these 10 poison bearer idols, fresh and ready for the San Diego Comic-Con.

This first release in copper will be our SDCC exclusive and the first new resin cast from Steam Crow since 2005.

Each Friend idol stands 5 and a half inches tall, and is quite a hefty piece of cast resin. They’re hand painted in steampunk copper, and each one is unique with their own distressing, fault lines, and cracks.

Individual idols hold a tiny little poison flask (empty) which it butlers on a teeny tiny platter. They’re modeled on the Feratu bloodsuckers, from Steam Crow’s Monster Commute webcomic.

10 will be on sale at the Steam Crow Booth at the San Diego Comic-Con, #4207 for $50 each.

If you’re from Seattle, you’ll hopefully recognize it as a parody of the Dick’s Hamburgers restaurant chain, a Seattle landmark nearly as famous as the Space Needle.

We’ll be printing 120 of these and selling them at the show. They measure 12×18 inches, are printed on satin matte archival film, and will be hand numbered and signed by the artist! At $20 each, they’ve moved very quickly in the past as folks there have begun to collect our prints!

And I should say that Emerald City Comic-Con is a fabulous show; we’ll be there with a mega booth #106. If you look, you shouldn’t miss us.
