Some things are not what they seem.
This is a theme that was very common in my fantasy roleplaying setting, Agyris.
From 1986-2004, I spent a bunch of time, creating a free campaign setting for me and my friends to use in our Dungeons and Dragons campaign. (Never mind that we hadn’t played D&D for years, and had moved to RuneQuest and later to FUDGE.)
Anyway, by 1999 a group of us brought Agyris online.
I had the help of several talented people: 2 programmers (Brent and Rob) and 2 illustrators (Shannon and Ben), who spent countless hours making my fat paper-strewn folders into a massive website. You can see their handiwork, all over there. (I was simply the writer and designer.)
To say that Agyris (“Gyr”) was a passion of mine, is no exaggeration. I loved creating this broken world, and letting my imagination play in it’s crumbling realm. World building had been my hobby since about 14, and I’d been going at it for a long while.
In 2004, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to take on a better job than I’d been able to find in Spokane. Truth was, I was simply tired, and needed something to shake up my life. The move certainly did.
It also cut me off from my gaming group of many, many years. I’d been gaming with Travis and Brent since about 1984, and the rest of my core gaming group since about 1989 or so.
Without gaming, I had a chance to reinvent myself, and take on new challenges like running Steam Crow. Unfortunately, that means the Agyris has sat dormant while I’ve been working on on things.
Funny thing is that while I’m often asked “what happened?” in regards to Gyr, I’ve always had a plan to get back to it. I knew that it would have to stand fallow, while I worked on other things.
It’s one of those things that you keep in your hip pocket, for the right time, and the right place, to dust it off, and bring some shine to it once again. I have a feeling that it’s going to be when I get back to gaming on a regular basis, most likely with my son Kaid.
So, even though it may seem kind of dead, Agyris still has a lot of tales to tell.

Man that is so cool, but now I feel like suck an amateur.
“Shick”…? That’s not right, that’s at least a “Zot” or even a “Zorch”, IMO.
I dont feel like suck an amateur, but “Shick” is not a sound you can challenge! Now, you have to roll the 50 sided die to determine how many days in a row you are sentenced to eating at Clown Byte! No disputin’ Rasputin, either. Yo!

Agyris is living and doing well.
We are in year 8 of a primary campaign occupying a tine corner of Agyris and have two additional side campaigns that have sprung up. Plots are building as the end of the age approaches and the wheels are in motion to begin the mighty Bell Wars that have historically prefaced each ringing. Our world builder is currently in exile in the land of the ever bright sun and as such we have been forced to record our new material to papyrus scrolls which we will seal in clay jars and toss in a cave up on Snoqualmie pass pending his return.
