Here are a few of my favorite comics:
- Aliens: Salvation – First Mignola comic I ever read. I think. Either that or Bram Stoker’s Dracula graphic novel. Loved both, though Aliens is the better book.
- Hellboy Series – Pretty much the entire series that Mignola draws starting with Seed of Destruction.
- Maus – There’s a reason that Spiegelman won a Pulitzer prize for this one. Loved it. So sad. Am reading Maus II now.
- Various Tank Girls. Yeah, from before the movie. Good, radical stuff. Love the punk design ethic.
- Acme Novelty Library – I’ve got several of Ware’s over sized editions. Great colors and draftsmanship, in addition to superb storytelling. However, I can’t read too much or I start to feel a little depressed.
So yeah, I started reading comics in the mid-90′s. Before that, I was reading RPG books, playing in bands, gaming, and writing. Didn’t know that comics had evolved past supers yet.
There are some other indie titles that I like, that I need to dig up and mention too. There’s just a bunch more that I can’t think of right now.
What do you read?

Robert Pirsig, Harvey Mackay, Parmahansa Yogananda are reads that I could do a couple of times over. If it is not how to maintain a motorcycle, it is looking deep into ones self… And then there is my daily fix of Monstercommute.com (must achieve balance!)
I’ve been really loving the Flight anthologies. Just an absolute joy to read.
One of the things I like about Manga is that, for the most part, they avoid the ‘supers’ problem. Granted they have their own quirks that I”m not a huge fan of, but it’s definitely a different flavor then the american variety.
Oh yeah, in the 90′s I read the entire 7 volumes of Nausicaa by Miyazaki; that was a good read. Dawna is reading it now.
She’s also begun reading Buddha, by Osamu Tezuka. I’ve read some, and it’s pretty cool too.
