Movies that I’ve recently watched and enjoyed:
- Tyson – the documentary about boxer Mike Tyson. Good flick. He’s an angry/sad guy, even before his kid died. He lives here in Scottsdale.
- Inglourious Basterds – I need to watch it again, to just to absorb the fantastic villain. I really enjoyed this one.
- Syriana – I’d seen half of it before, but it was intense and good. Another fairly sad affair demonstrating the complexity of the Middle East.
- Anvil – the Story of Anvil – Canadian metal band Anvil influenced a ton of popular bands, but never was able to find success themselves. Worth a watch, if you were ever in a band in the early 80′s like I was.
- Franklyn – A noir/fantastastical film that was very blah, but the steampunk visuals were really, really cool. The top hat cop guys were really, really great.
(These were the best images that I could find. Too bad, really.)
I watch a little of my weekly movies during lunch. I can get through a movie in about 3 days this way.
It’s either that, or NO movies. (And I love film.)
What have you been watching?

Hey I just watched Franklyn last week! Great movie, I really dug that guys mask.
Nola is alive? (I inferred from the last panel of the last comic that he was killed by his own machines…)
Anyway. Movies. Last night we watched Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, which was HILARIOUS. Also saw The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, which was at least visually interesting.
Yeah, Cloudy with a chance of meatballs was fun. Better than most kid’s fare, for sure.
Our most recent movie was “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” which we really loved. Hadn’t ever seen it, and I think Jim Carrey was at his best in it. Awesome to see him get a different sort of role for once.
Saw “Star Trek”, seems like they only have one basic script they keep using over and over again.
Caving in and going to see Avatar this weekend.
My all time fav’s that I have to review often include All of the Matrix movies and just watched Ghost Rider again. I cant 100% just watch a movie anymore. Gotta be surfing the web for all its goodies as I watch. DVR has helped me enjoy more flicks.. The mini series Alice was a fun little romp on an old story with a new twist. Woo. Canceled Netflix though..
Wow, Nola must be a really tough dude to be able to survive death. Or, you know, is a robot.
Oh, man, I haven’t watched a movie in forever… I think the last one I attempted to watch was the Shining, but I couldn’t make it through the first part, before they get settled into the hotel. It’s a shame, too, because I really DO like King’s storytelling… once it gets to the actiony parts. He plods a bit, otherwise.
My ultimate “must watch every year at least once” movies are definitely 1776, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Moulin Rouge, all for completely different reasons.
