I have some interesting hats.
And no, I’m not “the hat guy.” I’ve never really been that into hats, until all of my hair fell out.
Now, living in Arizona and the land of the perpetual sun, I have to keep my bean covered lest I get “teh headz cancers.”
I’ve managed to get a few interesting hats over the last few years:
- My thinking helmet. East German. Steel. Doodled all over. Fun to wear.
- The steampunk gas station attendant cap. I’m wearing this to our 2009 conventions.
- Stormtrooper helmet. It’s like a hat, except it’s white and all cool. Love troopers. Always have.
- Armored top hat. This is part of my Duke Davis costume. Monsterology requires armored hats.
- And a few brimmed hats, sorta fedora style… but less Indiana and more Sinatra.
Not that I have any real sense of style mind you. I’m just trying to survive out here, you know?
Hats I want:
- A metal WWI helmet – German and British would be cool. I just like em.
- A salet with brevor. It would make a nice lamp.
- A wizard hunter hat, like Steam wears, so I can rule at LARPING!
- A very funky hairpiece from the 70’s. Used but clean. Blonde or strawberry blond. For laughing.
- A pilot’s cap, leather, with goggles.
What do you put on your head?

I like the design of this new character.
“Steam” is not his real name…
I’ve started wearing a lot more hats. I have a dark blue Shimano (bike parts) cap that I can actually wear in public. I also have a faded orange cap with a white bike on it- it’s one of those Life Is Good things. And when I’m out in the woods I have a green “jungle explorer” type hat, which has a growing number of Steam Crow buttons.
Let’s see now… the Baron wears, at various times, one of two drover’s hats, one in leather and one in wool felt, a green and black buffalo plaid hunters cap, and, sometimes, something called a ‘recon wrap’ to help keep the tangled mane under control.
Almost had a bowler but that deal fell through for the same reason I don’t have a topper yet… they don’t seem to be made large enough and I can’t ever afford a custom made one.
You’ll have to check out the Village Hat Shop here next time you’re in San Diego (walking distance from Cool Jerk corporate office). I don’t think they can be stumped. I should send photos.
Me? Fez.
Gauntlet gloves, keep the air and coal soot out. I never leave home wifhout them. Black leather and tight at the wrist.
(I saw Alex Lifeson in a Fez, backstage, following a RUSH concert!) Huzzah!
This may be one of my favorites yet and it looks like I’m about to get a new favorite character.
There was/is an old Santa Clause biker guy in Lansing, MI who rides his awesome 3-wheeled chopper around town whilst wearing a viking helmet. Rad!
