Dwayne Claire Homage
on April 23, 2009 at 6:56 pmI don’t know what to call these things… pinups? Tribute art? An homage?
All of it just sounds sooo…. egomaniacal. But, it is what it is. Sometimes people draw my characters, and sometimes those people are my talented friends.
Today, I’m featuring a piece by Mr. Dwayne Claire, of Chilliwack BC. Dwayne and I have known each other for several years now, and he has been around since the very beginning of Steam Crow, offering his friendship and support.
I only get to see Dwayne every year or so, when we see each other at the Emerald City Comicon, in Seattle. Though it’s not quite in the middle, Dwayne does have to drive a few hours to get there.
This year, Mr. Claire surprised me with this gnarly “tribute” illustration:
It’s certainly the first piece where I get to be depicted along with my characters. It’s super cool, and proves that Dwayne is both talented, and very generous. He gave me the ink drawing as a gift, which is super cool. I really need to hang out with him, and buy the guy a beer and a burger. (We’re always so strapped for time at cons.)
Now, while I’m trying to convince you that Dwayne is a terrific guy (and he is), you don’t get the sense of how humble and nice he is. I don’t know if it’s just the Canadian way, but I’ve only met really authentically nice people from Canada. It’s like the Old America in some ways.
So, now it’s time for me to convince you to see Dwayne’s other work. It’s only going to take one piece: Alan Moore.

Thanks again, Dwayne!

Cool artwork man!
Too cool, I like the paternal hand on Chadworth too, and Bestio has that “Daddy don’t love me no more” look on his face.
