So, this Krampus thing is beginning to turn into an illustrator’s meme.

I didn’t really know what a Krampus was, until this year. Last year, Dawna saw something on TV that featured the Krampus, but since I didn’t see it, my imagination wasn’t captured. But now it is.

I’ve been looking at as much vintage Krampus stuff that I can find, and I have to admit, I dig them very much.

What’s a Krampus?

Wikipedia says:

Krampus is a mythical creature. In various regions of the world – especially Austria– it is believed that Krampus accompanies St. Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children.

The Krampus go around hitting bad children with birch switches, and chaining them up and/or stealing them away in baskets.

Anyway, finding a legend of a monster that is attached to Christmas is pretty cool to me.

Happy Christmas Eve!

“Grub Vom Krampus” means “greetings from the Krampus”? “Merry Krampus”?

Anyone know?
