About
Steam Crow is a Phoenix, Arizona company that creates quirky, imaginative characters and strange stories for people with a monster imagination.
Founded by Daniel and Dawna Davis in 2005 after attending the San Diego Comic-Con, Steam Crow has been traveling the West Coast comic convention circuit hawking their monster-based characters and products like a goblin circus.
To date, they have illustrated and published 3 books under the Steam Crow Press brand: Caught Creatures, KlawBerry: Good Girl, Bad World, and After Halloween.
In mid-2008 Daniel began work on the Steam Crow Monster Commute, a free webcomic about the endless daily commute of a robot and a beast, stuck on a monster highway. Inspiration for the project comes from the Davis’ 3+ hour daily commute in the blazing Arizona sun, along with Daniel’s real psychosis surrounding driving (fiery death, getting lost, etc.).
How Steam Crow Makes Stuff
Daniel Davis
Daniel has had a lifelong obsession with robots, monsters, and mythology. He’s has been drawing upon these roots his entire life, and while his mother always hoped that he’d illustrate friendly wildlife, he focused on scrawling beasts and monsters of all sorts.
Daniel is the prime creator of Steam Crow’s properties, though he collaborates a great deal with this wife, Dawna, to get everything just right. He enjoys running Steam Crow (more than eating), watching samurai movies, reading comics and “books”, tricking computers, exploring the interwebnets, and playing with the goblin-boy Kaid. He is also the founder of TINY ARMY, an informal Arizona illustration society.
Daniel shares his exact birthday (day and year) and birth location with comedian Patton Oswalt. It’s kinda weird, huh?

Dawna Davis
The whole concept of the Steam Crow company came from Dawna, who is an arts educator of high passion. She creates all sorts of handmade plushies and monsters bags, which can sometimes be found in the Steam Crow stores. Dawna is a photographer, seamstress, and ceramicist, and she also enjoys drawing, cartooning, watching movies, and reading. She is an expert wrangler of the goblin-boy, Kaid.
